This critical edition of Merovingian and Carolingian charters was published as part of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica series in 1886. Editor Karl Zeumer made a more comprehensive study of the charters than previous editors. The Monumenta series contributed to the link between history and nationalism in nineteenth-century Germany.
