Norvald Nilsen is an associate professor at the University of Agder, Norway. He has comprehensively studied the Balkan culture and people. His research was accompanied by many journeys to the region, conducting field research and collaborating with peers who share the same passion for ethnic music and dance. Ethnic culture can often be used as valid arguments concerning origin, geographical borders or ownership of land, arguments which often led to war. It is of utmost importance to keep an unbiased perspective of the regions geographical, political and religious stance, in order to study unobtrusively the many wonderful versions of the stories and folklore of dance and music in this region.
