Omtale

Alexander Aas suddenly breaks with his life in Oslo and travels to Lofoten, his grandmother's birthplace. He rents a house from a widow, intending to find time to paint and try to discover his roots. He asks Magnus, the widow's young son, to model for him and becomes fond of the boy. But, in the end, he flees from Lofoten, from Magnus and from the challenging behaviour of Staube, a German. After his winter in Lofoten, Alex goes to stay in his family's house on Peloponnesus, where most of his childhood summers were spent. The constant shifting between Greek and Norwegian cultures and between Alex's inner tensions and his encounters with different men, between his relationships with his lover, Dino, and with his family, allows the author to create the portrait of a man and his background: Alexander Aas, the artist, lover, brother and son. ‘This is a riveting read, impressively written.’ STAVANGER AFTENBLAD ‘A finely-tuned tale from Klippenvåg … He is also able to hold the reader's attention in such a way that it is difficult to put the book down. The language he uses is, as always, of the highest class, and Klippenvåg is nothing short of a master when it comes to conveying mood shifts and the small details which contribute to driving the story forward. Et personlig anliggende confirms once more that Lofoten has produced an author who deserves an extensive readership.’ LOFOTPOSTEN ‘Once again Odd Klippenvåg proves his fantastic ability to describe people up close and credible in a language which can almost be characterized as refined. It is a true pleasure to move from page to page and simply enjoy the language – in addition, of course, to the fact that the story he tells is interesting, and as a whole it moves this reader strongly.’ FÆDRELANDSVENNEN
