This study reveals the changing conventions of the theatrical space as expressions of the changing attitudes to woman and her sexuality. The theatrical space has shifted from the front of the palace, into the drawing room and bedroom, narrowing down the scope and infringing on privacy. From this unusual viewpoint the author looks at plays by a wide range of authors.
