Omtale

Members of the Diverse Solidarity Economies Collective have come together to write Inventorying African Diaspora Economics: Community Banks in the United States, Canada, and Trinidad and Tobago, to give voice to the cooperative economics of Black diaspora women. This Element is inspired by the Combahee Collective and talks back to white-dominated literatures that ignore Black women's contributions in the field of political economy. The cases are rooted in Black feminist thought and practice to disrupt mainstream economics and to prioritize people's politicized organizing to amplify cooperative development. In acknowledging the value of self-managed membership institutions, the authors stem the effects of racial capitalism and advocate for a culture of belonging and economic democracy in our world.
