In 1815, the German geologist Leopold von Buch (1774–1853) and the Norwegian botanist Christian Smith visited the Canary Isles. This study, published in 1825, includes their observations on topography, minerals and plants, a chapter on the 1730 eruption on Lanzarote, and comparisons with other volcanoes around the world.
