The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is the second collection of stories featuring the now-famous detective, first published between 1892-3 in the Strand Magazine. The Sherlock Holmes stories have been adapted for numerous film, television and theatre productions, with more than seventy actors playing the legendary character in over 200 films. Among the most popular contemporary adaptations are the Sherlock series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
