William Nygaard, the director of Aschehoug, is Salman Rushdie's Norvegian publisher. He was President of The Norwegian Publishers' Association 198790. During this period he became a target of the Iranian fatwa issued in 1989 against Rushdie, his publishers, translators, and others involved in the dissemination of The Satanic Verses. Om 11 Oct. 1993 Nygaard became the victim of an assassination attempt and survived against heavy odds. This book contains his most important points of view regarding the facts and principles of the Rushdie affair.
