Omtale

The two friends Kristin and Verena grow up together in the northern Norwegian village of Knønes. But they go separate ways, only to meet again in Oslo many years later. Both of them dreamt about a life that would be different from what living in Knønes seemed to offer, and both hoped to become artists. Confronting life alone meant being catapulted into other trajectories, quite unlike what they had once planned, but they have given up neither on the dream of something different, nor the control of life. Lindkvist writes sharply, intelligently about being alive now. As an author, she can be compared to Mara Lee and Sara Stridsberg in Sweden, or to Vigdis Hjorth in Norway. Tørst is a wide-ranging, ambitious novel about a new generation of women and the lives they make for themselves. ‘Debut novelist Ellisiv Lindkvist does not only study the scratches in people’s identity, but also the society which creates them. … Lindkvist’s style is succinct and effective. … Repetition is used to create a rhythm in the language. … Not only does Tørst show the nuances in love and the complexity of the choices we make. It wants something more. The novel also explores the social structures which shape us; both the obvious and the obscure ones.’ Dagbladet ‘A topical and intense novel. The tone is raw and candid. The chopped style creates both content and intensity. And she masters this way of writing.’ Nordlys
