Challenging the often unquestioned hegemony of gay studies over lesbian studies, Jagose offers a theory of the lesbian. Drawing upon the work of such theorists as Eve Sedgwick and Luce Irigaray, she articulates a theory of "lesbian" space which symbolically exceeds the boundaries of understanding.
