Omtale
Originally published in 1993, this unusual volume was produced almost in its entirety by Latin scholars with different social experiences in the Spanish-speaking world of their immigrant families, various degrees of proficiency in Spanish, and with plenty of common experience in the English-speaking world of academia and public life. It is also unusual because it deals with the controversial theoretical topic – the relationship of language and culture to learning, and it attempts to go beyond traditional theory to the real-life issues of practical methods of teaching and qualitative evaluation of pedagogic effectiveness. Furthermore, it uses multiple analytical levels and multiple approaches from specialized and even esoteric discourses on linguistic theory to actual demonstrations of teaching strategies and samples of lessons. The book is divided into three parts: theory, pedagogical approaches, and actual case studies of successful curriculum development and teaching effectiveness.
