Omtale

First published in 1982, Teaching Poor Readers in the Secondary School presents a means of devising an individual teaching programme for children from the beginning of their secondary school career, enabling them to overcome a basic educational disadvantage likely to affect every subject in the curriculum. The book is divided into three sections. The first outlines an assessment procedure; the second deals with setting long-term and short-term goals for the programme; and the third covers teaching methods and materials. The emphasis throughout is on the reading task itself and how it may be broken down into suitable learning steps for children who have experienced prolonged difficulty in learning to read.
