Tales of Resistance and Resilience : Cinemascapes from Contemporary India

This book explores filmic texts that seek to resist and build resilience, and sustain cultures of resistance. It studies popular Indian cinema, ranging from Dalit representation to the struggles of the precarious class, including the queer community, as they struggle to sustain themselves. The chapters explore these films that represent the communities that resist oppressive practices in nuanced ways. Through Critical Discourse Analysis and semiotic analysis, the chapters unravel these acts of resistance and resilience and open these areas of research for future studies as well. The volume will be of interest to scholars of film and media studies, literature and culture studies, and South Asian studies.
