In addition, Frederick Turner includes a number of “culture contact” selections—explorers’ accounts, captives’ narratives, and Indian autobiographies—as well as a section on the conflicting popular images of the Indian in white literature and, finally, contemporary reassessments by such writers as Luther Standing Bear, N.
