Newly-appointed editor at the state television channel TV 1, Emma Waal (39) reckons she has got the job of her dreams. Back in the city where she grew up, Emma and her son Lucas moves in with her new partner, a man called Lavrans. Her childhood friend Julie is already a well established programme presenter on the same channel. But Emma is pulled back to earth soon enough. On her first day, she realises that she has joined a world in which everything is sacrificed for power, prestige and fame. Meeting the other editors, the so-called Gang of Four, brings home to her that not everyone feels equally positive about her new post. Is she no more than an alibi, a token woman editor – and a “sexy piece” mostly for amusement? Emma presents the talk show Emma's Extra; it is a success and the small editorial team surprises everyone with the high viewing figures. Too high, perhaps, sufficient to make others see her as a threat? Back home, there is another price to pay for success: increasingly, Emma's life centres around her job at the expense of her home life. Falling in love with the foreign correspondent Mathias complicates things even more. Rivalry, power struggles and a troubled love-life finally force Emma to make a critical choice.
