Omtale

The actor Johanna Halls has been engaged to play Hedda Gabler in a production for the main stage at National Theatre in Oslo. She loses her grip on the role and has to walk away. The performance is cancelled while she takes a week off to recover. During this respite, she starts an affair with the married director of the play. The Night is an existentialist novel, which focuses on the duality of life and theatre, personality and role. Later, Johanna refuses to play Hedda Gabler – is there a covert resonance between the fates of these two women? Peter Serck has created a fascinating portrait of a woman in his story of an artistic and emotional crisis.
